Kompany calls on Burnley team to believe they can beat Arsenal

Vincent Kompany gave a rallying call to his Burnley players to “make the most of their moments and believe”, as they take on title-chasing Arsenal at Turf Moor.

Arsenal head up north off the back of four-straight Premier League wins, scoring 16 goals including six in their last away game at West Ham.

Whereas Burnley are second from bottom and on a run of seven games without a win, but manager Kompany insists it is about taking their chances which they haven’t been doing.

“The game at the Emirates was a turn-around performance for us, we’ve been in every game since then so it’s about results now,” he said.

“They’re a top team but it doesn’t change from when we played Liverpool, Tottenham and City you need a few things to go your way and exceptional performances.

“They have the tools to hurt you but it’s about making the most of your moments. We’ve had enough across those games but we didn’t take them.

“You have to believe when you get them next, it’ll go in the back of the net.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was a coach at Manchester City when Kompany was club captain and they won the Premier League together. Now he welcomes him as an opposition manager at the top-end of the Premier League, something Kompany always knew Arteta would get to.

“We shared memories and experiences together, also playing against each other. Every now and then we talk, might be player-related discussions but we’re all very busy,” he said.

“He’s a very talented person and eventually guys like this always rise to the top.

As a former City captain, Kompany will be aware of the title implications if his Burnley team can shock the Gunners. But he doesn’t expect Arsenal to be too far away from his former club at the top.

“They are strong, I’ve watched them enough this season to see that they won’t lose many games from now til the end of the season.”
