Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris hopes Omar Alderete will be available for next week’s final game of the season against Chelsea.

The defender was forced off with a “small” injury in the 3-1 win over Everton as Sunderland kept their dream of qualifying for Europe alive going into the final day.

“He got a small injury during the week,” Le Bris said on Alderete.

“He was confident he could manage the game but in a sprint he felt it a little bit so we decided to avoid something major and we’ll see how he is tomorrow.”

The victory, thanks to goals from Brian Brobbey, Enzo Le Fee and Wilson Isidor, means Sunderland are just a point behind eight-placed Brentford with one game remaining, and two behind Brighton in seventh.
