Liverpool have confirmed the signing of 20-year-old defender Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes. The centre-back will join the Reds in the summer.

Liverpool managed to sign Jacquet even though there was tough competition for his signature from Chelsea, and the Frenchman is being touted as one of the best young centre-backs in Europe.

The deal is worth £60 million and has opened the door for Ibrahima Konate to leave the club this summer.

Chelsea offered Rennes the same deal as Liverpool, but the player chose Liverpool when it became clear that Mamadou Sarr would be returning to Stamford Bridge and Josh Acheampong would also remain at the club.

Liverpool believe it will help his development to stay in Ligue 1 for the rest of this season before moving to Merseyside at the end of the campaign.

Jacquet has the best aerial duel success rate in Ligue 1 at 75.5%, and is 6’2″. He has played 18 league games for Rennes this season.
