Alexander Isak has returned to Liverpool training ahead of the clash with Manchester City on Sunday.

Liverpool’s record signing has missed the last four games in all competitions through injury but could return to the squad when the Reds travel to the Etihad Stadium.

“He will train today for the first time with the team again after being three weeks out,” Slot said.

”I know I said three weeks ago that his pre-season has ended and it’s time for us to see where he is but I have to come back to those words because if you’re three weeks only with the rehab, that doesn’t bring him back to the levels he was three weeks ago.

“Although our medical team is doing an incredible job, you cannot compare rehab with games of football or training sessions with the team. As much as we try to replicate it, that’s simply not possible.

”Again, I have to say give him some time.”

Meanwhile, Slot says he hopes to have goalkeeper Alisson back for the game against Nottingham Forest later this month, following the international break.

But Jeremie Frimpong is set to be out for longer than that.

“Alisson, for sure,” Slot said when asked if he could return after the international break.

“I expect Jeremie back after the international break too, because we play November until March!

“But I don’t expect Jeremie to be fully fit for Forest, but with Alisson we expect this.”
