Live updates as Liverpool take on Manchester City in the Premier League.

'13 games is a lot'

More from Guardiola: “I have the feeling that if we improve a little bit, a little bit, it will not be enough to compete against Arsenal.

“We have them at home, of course we have to beat them.

“13 games in the Premier League, from my point of view from my little experience, is a lot of time, a lot.

“It’s a problem when you go into the last games and playing teams in a relegation battle, it’s a proper game of football. They live to survive and they give their lives, have long weeks to prepare.

“We come from FA Cup, Carabao Cup, Champions League, that makes a lot of influence for these kind of things. Liverpool were preparing all week for that game and we play three days ago against Newcastle.

“All we can do is breathe down the neck of Arsenal, be in there and try if they sleep, they make something and use it.”

Pep on Bernardo Silva's comments

Guardiola on Bernardo Silva’s claims that the title race would have been over had they lost today: “They didn’t tell me that. I’m more optimistic maybe than them but nine points, watching Arsenal. Are they going to lose more than three games, four games? Probably not, right?

“But in football, you never know, but the feeling is that. Despite that, there are always targets. FA Cup, final of the Carabao Cup, top eight in Champions League, we’ll be there in March. The players are coming. Ruben is back, Savinho and Jeremy is coming back soon, John is back too.”

Guardiola on closing the gap to Arsenal

“Of course, we would be disappointed (to lose). Of course all the questions would say it’s over and of course six points is still better than nine but it’s still a lot considering how Arsenal, how strong they are in all departments.

“But I said 13 games is a lot in the Premier League, FA Cup is coming, Carabao Cup final, Champions League. Many games, injuries, every team plays for something. Champions League qualification, Europa League, Conference League, not being relegated, every game in the last ten games in my experience is so, so difficult.

“It’s important to try to be there and improve. The second half was not good enough again. The game we did really well, against Spurs, was not good enough again to win three points, today could happen the same, but it’s a young team and maybe in the near future we can improve a lot.”

Guardiola delighted to 'finally' win at Anfield

“We won, finally I would say, at Anfield. Always it’s so difficult but I’m happy for the result for the guys because we were there. From the beginning, I knew Liverpool always start strong but we have to start stronger.”

Guardiola hails Bernardo Silva

Man City boss Pep Guardiola speaking in his press conference: “In the end, thankful for one of the best players who has ever played, our captain Bernardo Silva. We follow him and I follow him too.

“When a player always put the team in front of him, and do things through his own example, everybody follows him, me the first.”

Bernardo Silva says defeat for Man City would have been the end of the title race

“I feel that the whole team knew before the game that if we lost this game, probably the title race is over.

“They’re still in a much better position than us but we felt like we needed to win this game so obviously that puts us a bit closer. The hope is there, we’re going to fight until the end but it’s still six points so we’re happy but we need to keep doing our job which we haven’t lately.”

Bernardo Silva delighted to win at 'the toughest place in the Premier League'

Bernardo Silva speaking to Sky Sports on the importance of winning today: “For the distance that we have to Arsenal, obviously coming here to Anfield, for me it’s the toughest place in the Premier League by far.

“Usually for most teams, a draw is not a bad result but we needed to go for another goal so when I scored, I was quite happy obviously because we were back in the game but we needed another one and Erling got it.

“Obviously very happy but these points count as any other points in any game.

“It’s been frustrating in the beginning of the year because in my opinion, we didn’t do our job properly, and we could be much closer to Arsenal.

“But today, very happy because as I said, it’s the toughest place to come in England and to get the first win here in nine years apart from the Covid year, you can imagine how tough it is to win here and I’m really happy.”

Erling Haaland after his winning penalty

Erling Haaland speaking to Sky Sports after scoring the winner for his side: “I was really nervous right before.

“I’ve been practising and I managed to do it so an incredible feeling, also an incredible feeling when Bernardo scored.

“This place is so tough to come to. We managed to stay and never give up and this is also what I loved about Bernardo’s goal. He just wanted another one straight away.

“It gave a signal to not only me but the whole club, the fans, come on, let’s have it.

“In the end this is what we need to keep doing, to believe and to start winning games.”
