Lucy Bronze has been named England Women’s Player of the Year 2024-25, following a vote by fans.
The Lionesses soared to a second European Championship victory in three years, with Bronze admitting after the final that she had played the whole tournament with a fractured tibia.
Thousands of fans cast their vote to crown the Chelsea defender as player of the year, with Chloe Kelly and Hannah Hampton placing second and third respectively.
Bronze played a crucial part in England’s Euro 2025 victory this summer, most notably with her contributions during the quarter-final against Sweden. Her 79th minute header pulled England back into the game, where she went on to score the winning penalty in a gut-wrenching shootout to earn a semi-final spot.
That header was one of five goals Bronze scored for England throughout the 2024/25 season in the 16 appearances she made, 15 of which she started.

On receiving the award, which was presented by fellow Lioness Georgia Stanway, Bronze said: “I wasn’t expecting it but it’s always nice to get recognition, especially from England fans.
“I adore playing for England and I have put my heart and soul into every game over the last 12 years. In that respect, it’s a huge honour and especially after such a crazy year with the EUROs. I’m very proud.
“For me, 2015 was a real starting point as an England player; 2019, I feel like that’s when I was hitting my peak as an individual, but this year has been something that I couldn’t have imagined. The way we won the EUROs, the noise around it and women’s football in general this year has been out of this world.”
The 33-year-old was playing in her seventh major tournament with England this summer in Switzerland and has earned 140 international caps.
After coming back from her tibia injury, she has once again been selected for Sarina Wiegman’s squad, set to face Brazil on October 25 and Australia on October 28.
