Luke Shaw a major doubt to be fit for FA Cup final, ten Hag confirms

Erik ten Hag says there is only a “small chance” that Luke Shaw will be fit for the FA Cup final on May 25.

The defender has been absent since February with a muscle problem and has suffered a setback in his recovery.

Gareth Southgate announces his provisional squad for the Euros next week and it remains to be seen whether Shaw will be fit enough to play a part this summer.

The United boss is more hopeful about having fellow England defender Harry Maguire back for the FA Cup final, however.

“For England, I can’t say, that’s not up to me,” ten Hag said when asked about the duo.

“But for the cup final, we’re working. I think Harry Maguire there is a fair chance that he will be available.

“Luke is more complicated at the moment. There is a lesser chance that he will make it but there is still a very small chance.

“He had a setback and now we have to find out how far he is.”

Lisandro Martinez and Marcus Rashford returned from injury in United’s win against Newcastle and ten Hag says he is waiting to see whether more could return for their final day clash with Brighton.

“I can’t say at the moment. We are working to bring players back,” he said.

“We saw yesterday Martinez, he had a good session now as well.

“There were also others on the pitch like Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof, they returned on the pitch and we have to see how far they are, how far they are on Sunday.

“Tomorrow we have off, Saturday we have training, then we will see where we are.”
