Manchester City have confirmed that Rodri has undergone successful minor back surgery.

The Spaniard has been “feeling discomfort for some time”, City said, with the 30-year-old undergoing the procedure following his World Cup winning campaign with Spain.

City added that he will now begin “a short period of rehabilitation”.

Real Madrid are keen on signing the midfielder this summer, with only a year remaining on his current contract at Manchester City.

But City are keen to keep him until at least the end of his existing deal.

“First of all, you have to say that around big players, there is always speculation so I’m not worried about that. I think it’s normal,” boss Enzo Maresca said when asked about Rodri last week.

“Obviously because they won the World Cup, he was the best player or one of the best players, and I think every manager wants to have Rodri because he’s a top player.”

  1. So you have a player who is being paid very big money by his club. Recently spent a very large period of time out with injury. He needs another op on his back. Knowing this he plays every match in the World Cup. Wins player of the tournament. Now he decided to have the op on his back meaning his club not only misses him from at least the start of the season but carries on paying him. Then he is likely to be sold. Not at lot of loyalty going on there. I’ll take him to the airport, free.
