Live updates as Man City host Leeds United.
“We’ll see tomorrow with Arsenal and Chelsea what’s going on, what happens, but it is important to be close as possible to the top of the league. It’s possible to try until the end.”
“When we are five seconds late at half time, always we have to pay a lot of money. Now we have to wait 30 minutes to come here because of course Daniel had to speak and after that it’s not a problem.
“Hopefully they don’t fine me because I am 30 minutes late. It’s because Daniel Farke was here. Premier League, you know it now.”
“To be honest, I didn’t speak with Gigi.
“I know what happened and when it happened I look back to the dugout and told James Trafford to warm up.
“Honestly, I don’t know. Next press conference you can ask me.
“Of course every time I would love to have a timeout but I’m pretty sure if we do it again the Premier League will fine us again so better we don’t do it.”
Pep Guardiola on Foden’s late winner: “I was relieved, yeah. It was a relief.”
Daniel Farke was asked about Gianluigi Donnarumma going down injured, which was followed by Pep Guardiola giving a team talk to his players on the side of the pitch.
“Everyone knows why he went down right? It’s not like an elephant in the room.
“It’s within the rules, it’s smart. If I like it? If it’s in the sense of fair play? If it should be like this? I keep it to myself. I’ll leave it with the authorities to find solutions to it.
“It’s within the rules. I asked the fourth official at this point ‘do you want to do something?’, he said ‘no, our hands are tied, we can’t do anything’.
“We know this happens but if we don’t educate our players what to do in terms of fair play, sportsmanship, whatever, if we just try to bend the rules to your advantage, and you can even do a fake injury in order to do an additional team talk, I think it’s nothing that I, personally, like, but if it’s within the rules, I can’t complain about it.
“I think we should think about how we deal with it and how we educate. My recommendation was, right now, if this happens, do me a favour and give each and every 50/50 situation not for the home team but more or less for the away team.
“Everyone knows what is going on. If I’m honest, probably after 90 minutes at 2-2 I would have blown the whistle and that’s it and not additionally let them play further on.
“I think there are tools you can use to make sure that this won’t happen but if we don’t use the tools, probably we have to change the rules a little bit. There’s a reason why the goalkeeper goes down and not the outfield player because the outfield player has to go out.”
Asked for his thoughts on Leeds’ start to the game, with Foden scoring just a minute in, he says he can’t say because he’s not allowed to swear.
“It was always the plan after 60 minutes to take him off. I think he was struggling with a little hit, no injury concerns.”
Farke was asked why he has not played with two up front more often this season, given the benefits of it today, but was keen to stress that his side’s valiant display was not just about that.
“If it was that easy, then anyone can be a Premier League manager.”
Daniel Farke has credited his side for the way they fought against “one of the best teams in Europe” but says losing the set piece battle cost his team today.
“They should take lots of pride and confidence.”
Foden speaking after scoring the late winner for his side: “I was so hungry today to play and prove to myself I could still score goals. I missed a few chances against Newcastle and wanted to put it right.”
Well they certainly made hard work of it, but City eventually do get the job done. Foden is the man who stepped up and he is the hero of the hour.
For Leeds it is ultimately another disappointment. A valiant effort which they deserved more from – perhaps the story of their season so far.
