Live updates from the FA Cup quarter final between Manchester City and Liverpool.
“I don’t think it was chance after chance after chance. When it’s chance after chance conceded, you start to think maybe we should change our game plan or our tactics but if it is moments, which it was because I don’t think they had many more chances than the goals they scored, then it’s about understanding the importance of a moment.
“Understanding that you need to be ruthless in those moments, even if things go against you or you find it a bit mentally hard. 1-0 down after 35 minutes where you feel you were at least equal to the other team, this has happened many times to us so yes mental could be a part of that but it’s never an excuse.
“If you play with this shirt and for this club, being 1-0 down or 2-0 down is never an excuse not to put effort in that specific moment because then it’s almost impossible to get a result against teams of this quality.
“If you let your runner go or you don’t block a shot or cross against players of this level, you can maybe get away with it at a different level but not at this level.”
“In those 20 minutes the way we defended when we conceded four goals is absolutely not good enough.
“It’s a bit of everything. Effort comes first I think. We have to try to make it more difficult for them than we were doing because they are already good players and if you don’t make it difficult for good players, it’s immediately a goal and that’s what we saw four times.
“Wednesday, again, we face very good players so we have to make it more difficult for them in those moments when we defend than we did today.”
“If we don’t want them to leave early, we have to perform better. That’s the first thing. We have to show now that we react after a loss like this.
“After so many disappointments that we had this season, the good thing is the fans have always been supportive even today.”
“We missed the fighting spirit definitely in the ten minutes after half time and then afterwards it was just a game where both teams accepted it was 4-0. In that 10-15 minutes of time, we missed willingness to win duels, to be there first, to make it difficult, that is something we definitely have to do better on Wednesday.”
“Against teams of this level, you need to defend better than we did in the 20 minutes where we conceded four goals.
“No one will probably remember it but the first 35 minutes, there was a lot to like from my team and it would be nice if we then can score a goal once in a while from the chances we create.
“Again, we faced a team that outperformed their xG by a mile and that’s what has happened constantly, and every time we are under that.
“If we want to have a chance of beating PSG, we have to do both parts better. You have to score and you cannot be so easily beaten.”
Liverpool boss Arne Slot: “An unbelievable disappointment.
“The 20 minutes where we concede the four goals were not of our standards.”
“The way Pep (Guardiola) organises the team and how he puts his passion and ambition onto the players every day.
“There are two things certain in Manchester, the weather is not that good and Pep doing meetings with the team.
“The main thing is that our senior players, they own it. They own the responsibility of the group and then good things grow.
“Bernardo, Rodri, Ruben, Erling, the guys who are here for long, they continue that mentality to see each next game as a final.
“The young players will grow with the senior players and they reach certain standards.”
“He’s making steps but he just has to make sure to keep growing. A young player, full of potential.”
“That was his 12th hat-trick for City today, at an age where there’s still much more.
“I love the second goal.”
Man City defender Marc Guehi: “The manager always says it’s important to arrive at the right time, at the end of the season with big games. It’s important.”
Erling Haaland speaking to TNT Sports on his hat-trick: “It’s been some time now since I’ve done it for City and I think it’s about time I did it again. Another hat-trick is always special and I’m super happy.
On how he reflects on his season: “I think it’s been a bit too much up and down which is never good enough. I cannot think about what I could have done differently or what didn’t happen, I have to think about the next game.”
No injury time is played as the referee brings the quarter-final to an end.
Liverpool were on top for the first half an hour but failed to capitalise and it eventually turned into a rout for City. Haaland was back to his goalscoring best, with Cherki and Semenyo also shining. City advance to the semi-finals and they look back to their best.
Konate is booked after a challenge on Savinho.
It is certainly not his first foul of the afternoon.
Salah is finally withdrawn.
Chiesa replaces him.
Hat trick hero Haaland is taken off.
Marmoush comes on in his place.
Job done for Cherki and Semenyo who make way.
Reijnders and Foden come into the game.
Gravenberch, Wirtz and Ekitike are taken off.
Slot sends on Mac Allister, Ngumoha and Gakpo.
Silva now picks up a yellow card.
No need for anything stupid from any City players now.
Kerkez is the next Liverpool player to be booked.
Still more than 20 minutes left to play here.
Salah steps up but he cannot beat Trafford from the spot.
A great save from the Englishman and City maintain their lead.
Nunes brings down Ekitike in the box.
Liverpool have a penalty.
Gomez is taken off.
Frimpong comes on.
Rodri and Doku are withdrawn with the game won.
Gonzalez and Savinho come on.
City have a fourth and Haaland has his hat trick.
Doku slides through O’Reilly and the youngster is incredibly unselfish to square to Haaland instead of shooting himself. The Norwegian taps home and that is game over.
A chance for Salah to reduce the deficit but his curling effort is well off target.
Liverpool could crash out of the cup here and it will not be the send off that Salah wants.
