Guardiola doesn’t entertain any talk of catching Arsenal in second.

“They have a game in hand. This is not the target.”

Guardiola says he considered bringing on Erling Haaland, who was on the bench for the first time since his ankle injury, but opted for other options because of the way the game was going.

“I was thinking (about it) but he had just two training sessions with us and in that moment I decided for the other types of players.”

“There’s players like Sergio (Aguero) and Kevin that are in the heart of the people. It’s not just the titles and the numbers. It’s the contribution in terms of love and affection and passion.

“All of us have been one decade here. He helped us to win absolutely everything and he’s still here.

Is he playing with a point to prove? “He doesn’t have to prove anything. Anything. I know his quality, his level and everything.”

The first question of Pep Guardiola’s press conference is not about the game but on Neil Warnock’s visit to the club.

“It was an honour. He made a speech to the players and it was so funny, like he is, and everyone was laughing.

“I have massive respect for him, Sam Allardyce, Tony Pulis, Alan Pardew.

“He’s more than welcome whenever he wants to come.”

City survive the corner and the referee blows for full time.

Kevin De Bruyne is the match-winner for the Blues.

Wolves have a corner with just seconds remaining.

This will be their last chance and goalkeeper Jose Sa is going up.

Guardiola makes his final substitution.

Nico Gonzalez replaces Mateo Kovacic for the final moments.

Erling Haaland comes out to warm up for the first time.

The Norwegian receives a warm welcome from the home supporters.

Guardiola has turned to his bench and sent on Manuel Akanji.

The Swiss centre-back replaces Nico O’Reilly and Josko Gvardiol will move to left-back.

Wolves have their first effort of the half and they go agonisingly  close to equalising.

Cunha strikes it well but he is denied by the woodwork.

Marmoush has been down injured for a number of minutes.

The Egyptian has been electric since joining City in January and they will hope he can continue.

The referee’s whistle brings an exciting first half to an end.

Wolves started well and were confidence but they failed to finish their chances and now find themselves behind. City have not been bad but they have not created many chances apart from the goal.

The hosts have looked more comfortable since the goal and have been the better side since they took the lead.

It is possible that the opener has blown the wind out of Wolves’ sails.

Wolves have been made to pay for their missed chances.

The visitors have probably been the better of the two sides so far but they now find themselves behind.
