Man Utd boss ten Hag reveals Shaw is among players doubtful to play in Community Shield

Erik ten Hag has revealed that Luke Shaw is among the players that are doubtful to play in the Community Shield on Saturday.

Shaw struggled with injury in the second half of last season and has not played for United since February but was, however, a surprise inclusion in the England squad for Euro 2024 and featured in the latter stages of the tournament as the Three Lions reached the final.

But the left-back is now a doubt to play against rivals Manchester City in the Community Shield along with three other defenders.

On United’s injuries, ten Hag said: “Harry Maguire missed the game (vs Liverpool) which was a precaution but is still a question mark for Saturday. So we have training, we have to see whether he is fit enough or not to be available.

“Victor [Lindelof] played but also he’s a question mark and also Azza [Aaron Wan-Bissaka] and Luke Shaw are both question marks, we have to assess them tomorrow (Friday).”

New signing Leny Yoro is among those set to definitely miss out after being ruled out for around three months following a foot injury in pre-season.

Fellow new arrival Joshua Zirkzee is continuing to work up his fitness following his arrival from Bologna and fans have also been clamouring for United to bring in further additions to strengthen the squad.

Asked about transfers, ten Hag said: “We know what we are doing, I think we are in a good position with the squad and just wait, have patience, and in the right moment we will tell you.

“You see the market, it is quite quiet still, but we have done our business, we have done two deals and it’s about timing, the market options, it’s about in the right moment doing the right things.

And asked if United need to sell before buying, ten Hag added: “No, we did already, we bought already. As I said, we have a squad where in every position there is double occupation.”
