Manchester United have completed the signing of young defender Harley Emsden-James from Southampton.
The highly-rated 16-year-old has spent his entire youth career up to date with Southampton, making two U18 Premier League appearances last season at the age of 15.
Southampton will receive a compensation fee for the defender.
He is likely to play for the under-18s mostly this season, who are managed by former Man Utd midfielder Darren Fletcher.
“Proud and grateful to sign for United,” he said. “A dream come true and the start of an exciting new chapter. Can’t wait to get started.”
United are also hoping to sign a striker this summer.
They have already moved to bring in forwards Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo from Wolves and Brentford respectively for a combined fee of around £130m.
But boss Ruben Amorim is keen to further revamp his attack by adding a new centre-forward, though did suggest recently that they may not do so.
Benjamin Sesko and Ollie Watkins are among the players United are keen on.

signing these young players is great but doesn’t anyone else think that maybe we should be strengthening the first team with a striker and keeper rather than just signing kids or is it a case of the kids will hopefully bring in good money for ineos in the future
it’s wrong that big clubs can steal the talented younger from lesser clubs. Some kind of compensation should be made to the developing club upto the age of 25, either by there worth to the buying team or 50 of all transfers.
to my comment i want man u to go with seseko still a young and a good player watkins al those season he is vo down he not playing like before we are tired to sleep with our head paining we need a men stand like a striker you never know Like Haaland never playing in apl club but when he come he shine he come a top goal score even bring seseko
We urgently need a serious striker and and a very good keeper, why don’t we target the Premier league and the champions league trophies?
We need a good striker now.

All this young players coming in. Creates a dream of a perfect first team. But we had talent and still manage to get rid of them.
Congratulations that we have tried , man united to brought in some players.
The team actually needs a strong striker(s) and we also need goalkeeper because as far as am concerned we don’t have. Onana is not worth to that task.
Premier League now needs dedicated and experienced players on the pitch.
