Hurzeler hails Brighton players' togetherness

Fabian Hurzeler: “You need to have belief in every situation of the game but to show the belief when you’re 2-0 down, that shows real character. And that shows that we really stick together and the players have a strong bond and can really trust and rely on each other.”

Carrick: We can't lose a game like that

Man Utd boss Michael Carrick: “We ended up with a pretty disappointing night. It’s obvious for me to say that. We accept that. We can’t be in a position like that and lose the game in that manner. I’ll understand the disappointments and frustrations. I accept that. That’s on me. It’ll need to be better than that.”

Brighton midfielder Gross highlights area to improve

Pascal Gross says Brighton still have plenty to improve on but hailed his side’s ability to come from behind and win: “It was frustrating because it’s not the first time this season, it’s the third time this season where we started slow. We have to improve that because we always have to climb a mountain but today we did that.

“We played here before last season a similar match that we won and that gives you belief in a stadium where you won before. The experience we try to give it to the lads. It was a really good performance and I have to say [Jason] Steeley’s save at the end was unbelievable.”

The final whistle goes and is greeted by a chorus of boos. Another disappointing display and result for United, who crash out of the cup at the first time of asking again. Questions are being asked of the team, and pressure is only going to grow on Carrick.
