Watch Ruben Amorim’s FULL press conference over on our YouTube channel:
“You can feel we are a different team because we have guys stretching the other team.”
“They are human. At Manchester United, everything is in the news. Everybody talks about the goalkeeper and you can see I can change the goalkeeper but these situations happen. We are in that moment.
“It’s hard to be a Manchester United goalkeeper in this moment, but if you look at the first goal, we can defend the box better. We suffered a similar goal against Fulham because we don’t do the full rotation of the team when the ball is on the other side.
“All these small things have nothing to do with the goalkeeper.
“It’s not just the goalkeepers. I think everybody has to improve.”
Ruben Amorim says he is protecting Benjamin Sesko because of a lack of fitness.
“Everything is connected. He finished the game (against Grimsby) with cramp. That’s why we protected Ben from the penalties.
“Today it was that reason also. Josh is also a striker, a national team striker, but Ben, during the pre-season, he didn’t do 90 minutes and he did that on Wednesday.
“With the problem of Cunha, you don’t know if that full game in the middle of the week had something to do with the injury today. With the problem with Mason Mount, I was not risking another player not knowing if they are able to play so many minutes.”
“We need to understand that, always, we should have that level of effort. The effort was always there.”
Amorim speaking about the injuries to Mount and Cunha: “I don’t know, we will check them. We need those guys really bad to be really competitive.”
“It was hard to lose Cunha and Mason Mount. Mount played like 30 minutes with an injury.”
On how serious they could be: “I don’t know but I’m concerned about that. They are so important for us so we’ll see.”
“We should have won in a different way. We should not suffer.”
“It will help us because now we have two weeks (until the next game).
“Not to get one win would be tough on the team so it’s going to be important. It was a game that we had to win, we won, but we have a lot to do.”
Ruben Amorim speaking to Sky Sports: “If you look at the game, we should solve the game in the first half and then control the game but it’s never easy. We have to try to fight until the last minute. There are things we overcomplicate but for me the most important thing is, it doesn’t matter what happened, that we tried. During the game, we tried in every moment. The effort was there.”
The game comes to an end and United have their first victory of the season.
It was not pretty or convincing but they got the job done. If there is one thing that Ruben Amorim needs right now, it is results.
