Live updates from the Manchester derby as United host City.
Man Utd boss Michael Carrick: “I’m confused. We put things in place in the game now. We have people in offices with all the screens for this decision. It’s more worrying about if that’s the interpretation of football now. If that’s the interpretation of not interfering in the game now, that’s really worrying for me. It’s a staggering explanation.”
Man Utd defender Martinez: “I think he was offside and what I can’t understand is the rules. He was in front of me, that’s why Haaland was free at the back, but I want to be calm now.
Is that hard to do? “So hard because you lose a derby, three points at home. Every season they (the officials) come to the clubs, explain for an hour, hour and a half, the rules and look so confident with that, then after, five or six people doing this kind of mistake in the Premier League, it’s unacceptable because it’s the best league in the world.”
“I thought someone flicked it. I normally don’t go offside. I told Michael Oliver I took it a bit personally that he thought I was offside.
“I looked over to the gaffer and he gave me a thumbs up, so I knew it was a goal.
“It’s always nice to win games, but especially this with ten men for I don’t know how long, 60 minutes or something, at Old Trafford. It’s a difficult task so to do it with ten men is so nice and to see how much the fans enjoyed it as well.”
Here’s what the Premier League have said on that controversial Haaland winner.
#MUNMCI – 59’ VAR OVERTURN
VAR checked the referee’s call of no goal for offside – and determined that Haaland was in an onside position and recommended that the goal was awarded.

The full-time whistle goes and Maresca charges straight down the touchline to celebrate with the away fans in the corner, Haaland and Dias sprint to Donnarumma to celebrate with the goalkeeper after his late save, and it is a brilliant result for City. A performance full of grit and heart after the early red card, and they maintain their perfect start to the Premier League.
Booes could be heard around the home end at the full-time whistle. It is another disappointing result for Carrick’s side who had the man advantage for more than three quarters of the match. The Reds have now won just one of their opening four matches, and improvements will be expected soon.
Fernandes threads it through for Mbeumo who has a golden opportunity at the end of the game.
He strikes well, but Donnarumma produces an incredible stop to keep it out.
Five minutes of additional time have been added on.
Both teams will continue to battle until the end.
Maguire rises to meet a United corner.
However, he cannot direct his header on target and it goes just wide.
Carrick withdraws Rashford and sends on Zirkzee.
The Englishman has probably been United’s best attacker this afternoon.
Fernandez is now withdrawn by Maresca.
O’Reilly comes on for the final ten minutes or so.
Fernandez is also shown a yellow card.
It could be his last involvement.
Fernandez feels contact and goes down in the penalty area.
Maguire furiously grabs him off the floor and earns a yellow card.
Gvardiol is booked for taking too long over a free-kick.
United’s frustration is growing here.
Fernandez wins and then takes a free-kick for City.
He whips it low into the box and it is a great opportunity for Guehin but he fails to find the target.
Dalot delivers into the middle and Mbeumo rises to meet it.
Donnarumma is rooted to the spot and watches as the glancing header goes just wide of the post.
City come forward in search of a second and Fernandez goes so close to finding it.
Lammens makes a brilliant save to turn it onto the post and United are able to clear.
With United now chasing the game, Carrick makes his first substitution.
Sesko is on in place of Tielemans.
After a lengthy check, VAR awards the goal.
Ten-man City lead and it is Haaland with the goal.
Haaland is found at the back-post and he fires home, but the flag goes straight up for offside.
VAR is taking its time to confirm the decision.
The gaps are starting to appear for United, as Cunha is the latest to shoot at goal.
He hits it well, but it goes just wide of the post.
United continue to pile forward with the man advantage.
It opens up for Mbeumo but he fires well off target.
It comes to Mainoo on the edge of the area and he strikes well.
Donnarumma is beaten but it ricochets off the post before the Italian goalkeeper is able to collect it.
Maresca makes one substitution at half-time.
Cherki is replaced by Ndiaye.
Fernandez takes the kick off for the visitors.
We are back underway in the second half.
The first half comes to an end and the talking point will certainly be Foden’s red card. It looked a harsh decision and will have a huge impact on the outcome of today’s match.
City have still been playing well with ten men, however United will now be massive favourites in the second half.
