Manchester City’s transfer window so far and what they still need to do

Following a record-breaking fourth consecutive Premier League title, it has been a relatively quiet transfer window for Manchester City.

Most of the business conducted by the club have been the exits of academy and fringe players, with only one senior player joining the ranks of the Champions.

PLAYERS IN

Brazilian international Savinho has been the only addition to Pep Guardiola’s squad, arriving from City Football Group owned Girona for €25m. The exciting 20-year-old winger impressed in La Liga last season, a key figure as Girona earned Champions League qualification for the first time in their history. Featuring and scoring for Brazil in this summer’s Copa America, Savinho is sure to bolster Guardiola’s attacking options.

PLAYERS OUT

However, as one attacking option arrives, City lose another, with Julian Alvarez a club record sale fee leaving for Atlético Madrid for a club record sale fee. The Argentine departed for the Spanish capital in a deal worth €75m with a further €20m in potential add ons. It is a move that will leave City with no backup striker, which would become an issue should golden boot winner Erling Haaland become unavailable.

WHAT STILL NEEDS TO BE DONE

As one forward heads to Madrid from Manchester, another could head in the opposite direction, with Real Madrid star Rodrygo being linked with a move to the Etihad. The Brazilian’s future has been unclear since Kylian Mbappe signed for the Spanish giants. England international Eberechi Eze is another attacker to be linked with the Premier League Champions, who are said to be long term admirers of the Crystal Palace star. Rodri was imperious last season but City looked vulnerable without him. The Citizens had been linked to a blockbuster move for Newcastle’s Bruno Guimarães, although that now seems unlikely at this stage with the Brazilian reasserting his commitment to the Magpies.
