Enzo Maresca insists Christopher Nkunku and other Chelsea players who impressed in the 2-0 Conference League win over Heidenheim will get more of an opportunity to play in the Premier League.

Nkunku opened the scoring for the Blues in the second half before Mykhailo Mudryk sealed a fifth win from five Conference League games with a second late on.

France forward Nkunku has found game time difficult to come by in the Premier League and has largely been used as a substitute.

Goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen also impressed in the win over Heidenheim, making several key saves and Maresca insists he, Nkunku and others will get more opportunities in other competitions soon.

He said: “Both did very well. They did fantastic. I think all of them. Jadon Sancho did a very good game. Axel [Disasi] and Benoit [Badiashile], Cesare [Casadei] did very well. It is important they are ready when they get the chance.

“Filip did a very good game, Christo the same. We have a game on Sunday and then on Wednesday. We have nine or 10 games in December, so it is more or less a game every two or three days. They are going to get chances so they need to be ready.”

Jadon Sancho notched two assists on his return to the starting line-up and Maresa says he also has a big part to play in the rest of the season.

“It is very important,” he said. “I said since we started, Jadon is very important to us. He is very important. He has to be fit, mentally and physically; he is going to help us a lot. Unfortunately, we did not use him in the last few games but he is showing now how important he is to us.

“Especially against the teams that defend in the low block, we need that quality in the last third. Sometimes he will shoot more but I think he is going to help us a lot.”
