Maresca on Chelsea squad size, new signings and possible exits

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca

Enzo Maresca insists he is not spending time thinking about the size of Chelsea’s squad.

The Blues currently have 43 first-team players on their books and Maresca admits not all are training with the first-team group.

Ahead of the game against Manchester City, he said: “We spent 20 days in America with 28 or 29 players, so it was quite good to manage the squad.

“Now we have guys who are not part of the squad and are training apart.

“At the moment, it is not difficult also because if I start to think I have 43 players, it’s not good. I just finished the session now and I am already thinking about tomorrow’s session.

“It is the only thing I like to do, to control.”

And asked if there would be more outgoings, Maresca added: “This question is for Paul [Winstanley] and Laurence [Stewart]. They are there trying to find solutions for these players.

“I am not the guy to find the solution for these players otherwise they will have to pay me double [laughs].”

Maresca also says he wants more new signings before the window shuts, with Chelsea hoping to sign attacking duo Joao Felix and Victor Osimhen.

“The only thing I can say is they are not our players, so it is not correct for me to talk about a Napoli player or an Atletico Madrid player. At this moment, the club knows exactly what I think in terms of what we need.”
