Maresca says Chilwell can leave Chelsea: ‘He struggles to find his best position’

Enzo Maresca says Ben Chilwell can leave Chelsea this summer in order to get first-team football.

Chilwell managed just 13 Premier League games last season because of injury and has found himself out of new boss Maresca’s plans ahead of the start of the new campaign.

Marc Cucurella established himself as the first choice left-back last season and looks set to continue in that role this campaign.

And the Blues manager admits he will struggle to fit the Chilwell into his team and told reporters he is one of the players who can leave for more regular football.

He said: “With Chilly it’s quite clear, I love the way he trains, I love the way he is but the problem is that he struggles with us a little bit to find his best position.

“When you train everyday and you don’t get minutes, it’s not good for them and it’s not good for me because I need to make decisions.

“For some players, it’s sometimes better to leave and to go somewhere to get minutes. We will see what happens, the transfer window is open and we will see what happens.”
