Enzo Maresca says he and his staff will “try to help” Mykhailo Mudryk to change – and insists he wants to keep Noni Madueke at the club.

Mudryk started in Chelsea’s 2-0 Conference League qualifier win over Swiss side Servette and attracted criticism from the crowd due to his wastefulness in the final third.

But Maresca says he is committed to nurturing Mudryk to help him improve his decision making and output in the final third.

“This is Mudryk, not only tonight, since he joined the club,” Maresca said.

“He had some good moments and some bad moments.

“We’re going to try to help him to change. He is going to try to understand that we are going to get him the ball in the last third.

“Most of the mistakes of Misha are not quality, they are about the decision making.”

Madueke, meanwhile, has been linked with a move away amid Chelsea’s summer clear out, though Maresca maintains that he has a place in the team.

“I really like Noni, the only problem with him is he has to understand he needs consistency during the week in every training session,” Maresca said.

“But he is a good player and he is doing well with us since we started.

And asked if he wants Madueke to stay at the club, Maresca added: “Yes, absolutely. But the problem is, the reality is that until the transfer window is not open, anything can happen. But for sure, Noni is the type of player that I like.”

Another player in need of reassurance after tonight’s match was Marc Guiu, who missed an open goal and a pair of follow-up chances before being replaced by Cole Palmer in the second half.

“He only likes difficult goals,” Maresca quipped.

“He’s young, born in 2006, but he runs and presses so well off the ball and he’s going to score for sure.”

Maresca closed by giving an update on Palmer’s fitness after the star forward was spotted leaving the pitch holding his right thigh, saying that “Cole felt something, but he looks fine. They already checked him and he looks OK. Hopefully it’s not any problem and he can be available for Sunday.”
