This comes after reports that the England midfielder won’t be signing a new contract at the west London club, with United finely poised to sign the 24-year-old. It was an injury plagued season for Mount, in what was a disappointing season for Chelsea, in which they finished in 12th place. The Englishman will be looking to improve on the three goals and six assists he accumulated throughout the entire the campaign.

Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth joined the HaytersTV podcast for a transfer special, and he believes Chelsea will drive a hard bargain after contract talks stalled.

“There have been talks over a new contract and nothing has come of those talks with regard to him,” Sheth said. “Chelsea, we think want around 70 million pounds for him.

“United we know are definitely interested. They’ve been in with one bid, and you can tell by the size of their bid the kind of money that United are looking to spend on Mason Mount.

“They started at £40m, that was dismissed out of hand, rejected immediately and those were the two phrases I was given when that bid went in.

“United will go in with a higher bid. They’ll just probably do it not going straight up towards that £70 million pound mark.”

With Mount’s contract expiring at the end of the season, and the midfielder looking evermore likely not to sign a new deal at the club, Chelsea will be looking to allow the Englishman to depart this summer. Whether Manchester United hand over the desired amount for the 24-year-old remains to be seen.
