Chelsea manager latest: Nagelsmann out of race as Kompany emerges as contender

Julian Nagelsmann is reportedly out of the race to become the next Chelsea manager.

The club are currently looking for a new permanent boss following the decision to part ways with Graham Potter earlier this month.

Frank Lampard has been placed in interim charge until the end of the season but has lost all four of his games since returning to the club.

Former Bayern Munich boss Nagelsmann was said to be a frontrunner for the post, but according to Fabrizio Romano he has now withdrawn from contention.

Talks reportedly took place between Nagelsmann and Chelsea, but the German boss considers himself out of the running for the role.

Burnley boss Vincent Kompany is said to be a contender for the job, however.

The former Manchester City captain has won promotion with the Clarets from the Championship back to the Premier League this season.

Tom Roddy of the Times reports that Kompany is surprisingly on Chelsea’s shortlist, despite having only managed Anderlecht and Burnley so far in his managerial career.

He is facing competition from Mauricio Pochettino for the role who, according to The Telegraph’s Matt Law is in pole position for the job.

The former Tottenham boss has been out of work since leaving PSG last year and has reportedly impressed in talks.

Another unspecified name is also said to be in serious contention for the job.
