Guardiola has ‘many doubts’ about Man City squad with Ake set to miss out

Pep Guardiola says he has “many doubts” about who will be able to play in the FA Cup semi-final with Sheffield United on Saturday.

Man City progressed through to the Champions League semi-final on Wednesday by drawing 1-1 at Bayern Munich to seal a 4-1 aggregate win.

And boss Guardiola admits fatigue is an issue among his City squad following the game and heading into the clash at Wembley.

“I have to think about it, I have many doubts tomorrow about the line-up,” he said.

“I have to see the training sessions and talk with many of them or a few of them to see what is my feeling.

“Of course they are going to deny me and tell me they want to play, that’s for sure. It’s difficult to find a player who says they don’t want to play.

“But at the same time, we have to be sure that they are in the right condition.

“It’s not just about this game because we came from many, many, a lot of games, every three or four days with a lot of games and knowing that if we lose we are out.

“The mental fatigue is always big so we have to see, we have to wait.”

Defender Nathan Ake is one of those set to miss the FA Cup semi-final due to a hamstring injury sustained in the Champions League clash with Bayern.

Ake said after the game that he hoped it was “not too bad” but Guardiola says he is waiting to hear on the extent of the problem.

“I don’t know. He’s not ready for tomorrow but I don’t know the damage,” he said when asked for an update on Ake.

“I think today, this morning or this afternoon, they made the final test or the test to know exactly what he has.”
