Guardiola: Kompany will return to manage Man City

Pep Guardiola, Man City manager

Pep Guardiola believes former Man City captain and current Burnley boss Vincent Kompany will one day return to manage the club.

Kompany will return to the Etihad on Saturday to face City with his Burnley side, who currently sit top of the Championship.

Guardiola managed Kompany while he was still playing for City, and spoke of his admiration for the job the 36-year-old is doing at Burnley.

And while the City boss says he does not know when Kompany will return, he believes it is inevitable that he will at some point.

“Maybe he doesn’t agree with me, but after seeing his teams I’m more than convinced that he’s going to come back,” he said.

“When I said weeks ago my feelings, I said I don’t know (when), but it’s going to happen.

“It’s nice he’s back but in the last few days I’ve been thinking about what they have done so far this season, and what I saw.

“I’m not really surprised at all, the position so far and what they have done in the Championship.

“They are so close to being, next year, a Premier League team. Seeing more carefully what they do, I understand completely why they are there.

“It will be a really, really tough opponent because they do incredibly good things on the pitch.”
