Klopp: Something ‘seriously wrong’ if no one cared about Liverpool v Man Utd

Jurgen Klopp insists the rivalry between Liverpool and Manchester United has not lost any of its importance despite neither side battling for the title this season.

Klopp’s Reds are looking to record a fourth league win in five to boost their hopes of a top-four finish, while United are third and only harbour slim hopes of winning the league.

But while Sunday’s clash at Anfield is far from a title decider, Klopp believes the magnitude of a fixture between the two teams remains the highest it could possibly be.

“In the moment when Liverpool v United is not a special game anymore then something went really wrong,” Klopp said.

“That would be really difficult. That would be really sad because obviously I love football, I love the fuss we make of it, most of the time at least.

“It’s like ‘Liverpool – United… come on. I want to see that. It has to be like that. Otherwise, then football would have absolutely no right to exist anymore.

“People need to know and want to know what both clubs are doing.

“That’s why I have no problem with them particularly, but it’s a big game and it always was in my life a big game, since I was allowed to watch it on television.

“Always a big game. Thank god it’s still one.”
