The 2024 European Championships lineup is starting to take shape, with just three places left to fill. The tournament is Germany promises to be an exciting and enthralling month of international football. Unfortunately, some of the Premier League’s best players will not be competing next summer.
Here are five of the best players players who will not be at Euro 2024
Erling Haaland – Norway
Arguably one of Europe’s best players will yet again not feature at an international tournament. The Manchester City star is the main man up front for Norway, but his nation failed to qualify in Group A. Spain and Scotland grabbed the two top spots, whilst Georgia enter the play-offs. Norway miss out, as Erling Haaland is denied the opportunity to make his mark on the international stage.
Martin Odegaard – Norway
Much like Haaland, Martin Odegaard will too miss the summer Euros. The Arsenal playmaker has been sensational under Mikel Arteta, but his season will end in May whilst many others will have more football to play in June and July. Both Odegaard and Haaland will have their eyes set on the World Cup in 2026, as a chance to represent Norway in an international tournament. For now, the pair will have to be patient and focus on their club football, as both will battle with each other for the Premier League trophy.
Dejan Kulusevski – Sweden
Tottenham’s Dejan Kulusevski will not be a part of the European Championships in Germany. Sweden had a disastrous qualifying campaign, finishing third in their group, nine points behind second place Austria. Sweden had to do battle with Belgium too, losing at home and drawing away. Kulusevski has had a strong season at Spurs under Ange Postecoglou, but competing in the Premier League will be as far as his 23/24 season goes. Sweden lost to Poland in the World Cup 2022 play-offs, so this is another tournament the Tottenham winger will be missing out on.
Alexander Isak – Sweden
Another star striker in Alexander Isak will not be in Germany next summer. Like Kulusevski, he was part of a Swedish team that underperformed in qualifying. The Newcastle striker is one of the most exciting forwards to watch in the Premier League, but will have to wait another two years if he wants to play at the next World Cup in 2026. When fit, Isak is Sweden’s main striker, and goal getter. He is still just 24 years old and will have more opportunities to play on the biggest international stages.
Evan Ferguson – Republic of Ireland
The Republic of Ireland have not qualified for a tournament since Euro 2016 in France. They were knocked out by Wales in the round of 16. Ireland were handed a tough group in the draw. France, Netherlands and Greece were all put in the same group as Ireland. In eight games, they accumulated just six points. Evan Ferguson is an exciting up and coming striker who plays for Brighton in the Premier League. He has the potential to spark more positive qualifying campaigns for Ireland in the coming years. The 19-year old is still young in his career but has shown promise that he can play at the top level. He will hope he can replicate that too with his home country.
