Martin Odegaard said that the Arsenal team is playing with a ‘motivation and hunger” after the Gunners tore apart Lens in the Champions League.
Arsenal ran out 6-0 winners at the Emirates Stadium, with six different goal scorers on the scoresheet.
Odegaard was one of the scorers, grabbing Arsenal’s fifth before half time. The Norwegian was delighted with the team’s performance.
“It was good, I think it was a great performance from the start. We started really strong and then we were effective in front of goal so it was good”, Odegaard said.
“I mean that is what we wanted to do today. I think in the last few games we have been really good defensively. Today we wanted to show even more on the ball and to get some more goals, and we did that. We knew what we were playing for today and I think you saw the motivation and the hunger out there.
“Every time we play we want to send a message. We want to win every time we play and we want to put on performances like this, so it was a good night.”
Arsenal have safely secured their place in the knock-out stages, and have been confirmed as group B winners.
Arsenal flew out the blocks and raced into a 5-0 lead before the break, making up for their disappointing loss in Lens, when the two sides met in France back in October.
Arsenal are top of the Premier League, and now into their first Champions League knockout stage since 2016/17. The Arsenal captain said he is enjoying playing in Europe under Mikel Arteta.
“European football is a bit different, maybe a bit more transitions and a bit more open. We of course want to take that into the league. We want to keep playing well, keep scoring goals and offensive good football. We have to defend well and then play good when we have the ball”, said the Arsenal skipper.
“Every time we play we want to win. You play Champions League football and you play in big games so of course that is enough motivation, I think it will be another big game and we will be ready for that.”
