David Moyes says he is worried Jarrad Branthwaite suffered a serious injury in Everton’s defeat to Merseyside rivals Liverpool.

The defender was taken off on a stretcher late in the second half, before Virgil van Dijk scored a late winner for Liverpool to hand Everton a 2-1 derby loss.

“Jarrad was probably the best player on the pitch,” Moyes said.

“I thought he played so well. I’m worried it could be serious, but we’ll have to wait and see.”

Branthwaite has already had an injury hit season, missing five months with a hamstring injury.

Beto had equalised for Everton after Mo Salah’s opener and Moyes says his side did not deserve to lose.

“We didn’t deserve the outcome we got,” he said.

“But football’s cruel sometimes and you hopefully have to bounce back and go again when adversity goes against you a wee bit.”
