Live updates from St James’ Park as Newcastle United host Chelsea in the Premier League.
Watch Eddie Howe’s full post-match press conference here:
Eddie Howe after Newcastle’s 2-0 win: “I think we are missing some big players. Whenever you do that there’s a gap. The lads that came in today filled that gap. I think the lads who came in today filled that gap superbly.”
Eddie Howe says Kieran Trippier and Joe Willock could miss the rest of the season with their injuries.
“We’d love to get them back quick and able to play a part. I have no idea at this moment in time, I don’t know if that is possible.”
Watch Enzo Maresca’s full post-match press conference on our YouTube channel here:
More from Maresca: “The energy, the spirit and the togetherness of the team in the second half has been fantastic. It’s something I feel proud of.”
Enzo Maresca suggests the home crowd had something to do with Jackson being sent off.
“In this stadium, sometimes, it’s more the noise that decides if it’s a foul or not.
“With Nico, I didn’t speak, it’s not the moment. Probably in the next days we’re going to speak with Nico.”
The referee blows his final whistle. Newcastle extend their unbeaten run to three. Eddie Howe’s side go third, above Manchester City.
For Chelsea, it’s a bad defeat in the quest for Champions League football. They simply weren’t at the races for the best part of 75 minutes.
Sean Longstaff replaces the goalscorer Bruno Guimaraes.
Callum Wilson also comes on for Alexander Isak.
In the middle of all of that, the fourth official puts his board up for five more minutes. I wish it was longer! This has been a frantic, end-to-end game. Great watch for the neutral.

Against the run of play, Bruno Guimaraes scores! A wicked deflection off Malo Gusto loops over Robert Sanchez and finds its way into the back of the net. St James’ Park in full voice again.
Massive chance for Reece James! He latched onto Malo Gusto’s floated ball in but the Chelsea captain heads over. A chance which fell to the wrong man?
Bruno Guimaraes is booked by the referee for a cynical foul.
Chelsea are knocking on the door here. Enzo Fernandez’s shot is tipped just over the bar from Nick Pope.
Cole Palmer has just floated an attempted cross straight out of play, which is met by ironic cheers from the Newcastle fans. The Englishman has hardly been involved today.
Jadon Sancho takes the Chelsea corner. This time it does go into the box but not very far as it’s cleared by the first man.
Harvey Barnes squanders a massive opportunity to give Newcastle a second. Great interplay from the Magpies just outside the box saw Tino Livramento play in Barnes, but his first touch lets him down.
Enzo Maresca has just recalled Jadon Sancho and Malo Gusto.
Sancho replaces Trevoh Chalobah.
Gusto comes on for Romeo Lavia.
Good chance for Bruno Guimaraes who latches onto Jacob Murphy’s cute dinked pass. Guimaraes erratically fires over.
Pedro Neto comes across to take the Chelsea corner beneath the away support.
Neto goes short but the corner results in a Newcastle goal kick. Poor from the Blues.
Anthony Gordon comes off to a standing ovation. Emil Krafth replaces him at right-back.
Jacob Murphy seems to have moved forward to right wing with Harvey Barnes switching sides.
A top save from Nick Pope from Marc Cucurella. The Chelsea left-back has been getting forward and the beating of Jacob Murphy. Cucurella’s attempt was heading for the bottom corner. The St James’ Park crowd are getting a bit restless.
Sandro Tonali’s corner is met by Alexander Isak on the volley, who slices wide!
Lewis Miley comes on for Sven Botman.
Looks like a return to a back four for the hosts.
Fabian Schar is shown a yellow card.
