Live updates from St James’ Park as Newcastle United take on Manchester City.
Ruben Dias was not happy with the decision to allow Newcastle’s winner.
“Sometimes you allow it and sometimes you don’t. What is the rule?
“I had the chance to see the review now and he’s pushing him (Donnarumma) away from the goal. We’re so picky with certain things and then one like this you allow.
“If that’s the rule then let us do the same.”
Pep Guardiola says it was a “tight game” and that his side’s performance was largely “very good”.
“Unfortunately we could not finish.”
Howe on Harvey Barnes: “He’s always a goal threat. That’s the biggest strength and attribute he has.
“He could have scored four today. He never lets the misses affect him.”
Eddie Howe says today’s win was a “massive upturn” on recent poor results and that it should be a “big lift” for his side.
Harvey Barnes speaking to Sky Sports after scoring twice for Newcastle: “Today’s a great start and a great step in the right direction. It’s about kicking on now.”

After a lengthy VAR check, the goal has been given, much to the delight of St. James’ Park! City have a hill to climb now to get back into this.
A VAR check is underway to see if Bruno Guimaraes was offside before heading onto the crossbar. This will be a tense wait for the hosts.
Harvey Barnes finds the back of the net once again! What a crazy seven minutes of football we are seeing here! Guimaraes’ header bounces off the crossbar and falls to Barnes, who composes himself and fires it into the City net around a flurry of defenders. City are not happy with that one!
Well that’s one way to respond! Minutes after Newcastle open the scoring, City find themselves level, courtesy of Dias. A mix-up in the Newcastle box allows Dias to fire one into the flurry of bodies in front of Pope, and it miraculously finds its way through the crowd and into the back of the net. We’re back level again here at St. James’!
Harvey Barnes what a moment that is! Brilliant play from Bruno Guimaraes and Barnes! Barnes plays in Guimaraes, who then returns the favour and tees up Barnes who fires into the bottom left corner! What a goal! Advantage Newcastle!
Foden finds room to shoot just outside the box but fires high and wide.
Donnarumma denies Woltemade again! Murphy puts it on a plate for the German striker, who hits it low and hard but straight into Donnarumma.
Pep Guardiola appears to be rather frustrated with how his team have started this second half, and is noticeably animated on the touchline.
