Onana: ‘Only a matter of time’ before United started winning

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana says he has “no doubt” that his side will have a good season following their dramatic Champions League win over FC Copenhagen.

Onana has been widely criticised since his arrival at Man Utd from Inter Milan in the summer, making several high-profile mistakes in what has been a poor start to the season from the club.

But he played a pivotal part in their Champions League victory over FC Copenhagen, saving a stoppage time penalty from Jordan Larsson in the last kick of the game to ensure his side hung on for a 1-0 victory after Harry Maguire had headed his side in front.

United have now won their last three games in all competitions and the Cameroon international says he is convinced United will be successful.

“I was just doing my job,” he said of the penalty save.

“It’s important for us to win, against a really tough team. I’m happy for the victory, we had a really good game.

“Great from the big guy, from Harry (Maguire). We have to continue like that.

“We are Manchester United, we’re a very big club with big players so it was just a matter of time.

“Now we have to continue like that. When I see the way we are working, I have no doubt we’ll make it.”

Maguire has also dealt with his fair share of criticism during his time at United and says scoring the winner in what was effectively a must-win clash was “amazing”.

“Like Andre said, this is Manchester United, one of if not the most scrutinised club in the world,” he said.

“When you’re not quite on your game, it gets picked up. I’m really proud and pleased the way I’ve acted over the last six to 12 months and I’ve been given an opportunity now.

“I just want to be here to help the team and to get this club back to where it should be.”
