Pep Guardiola: It’s not news when Arsenal and Man Utd spend money, only Man City

Man City manager Pep Guardiola

Pep Guardiola has claimed it is “not news” when rival clubs like Arsenal and Manchester United spend big money on signings.

Arsenal have so far spent £27m on the permanent signing of goalkeeper David Raya and £42m on Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori, while United have spent around £90m combined on Lenny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee.

City, meanwhile, have signed winger Savio from fellow City Group owned club Troyes for £21m.

And asked about his rivals’ spending, Guardiola says City are more scrutinised when they splash out big fees on players.

He said: “Many years they have done it (spend money), many years, but it’s not news.

“It’s just when City spend money.

And asked whether he is concerned about his rivals spending, he said: “Of course I am concerned for many years how good they are because every year they are better and better.

“You see Arsenal playing at the same level as last season. I saw the game against Leverkusen, they are on fire.

“Every year looks more difficult. United will be back, you know? They bought players.

“Everyone wants the crown that we have had for four years.”
