Mauricio Pochettino says Chelsea fullback Ben Chilwell is facing another setback after suffering a hamstring injury.
Chilwell limped off in the latter stages during Chelsea’s 1-0 win over Brighton in the Carabao Cup. The England international is yet to complete a full game for Chelsea this season and will now have to wait a little while longer after sustaining the injury on Wednesday evening.
Pochettino spoke of his disappointment of the news as Chelsea’s injury list grows week on week.
“I think it is bad news. The doctor told me it is not a good thing. It looks like a bad injury, but we need to assess in the next few days and we will see.
“He is going to absent from the squad and the team, but I think it doesn’t look good, the injury.
“It was in the last minute of the game and yes we are really sad about the news about Ben.”
Chelsea have an extensive injury list going into a west London derby with Fulham. Reece James is still sidelined after picking up an injury in the opening Premier League game against Liverpool.
This leaves Chelsea without their first choice fullbacks added to the fact Malo Gusto is suspended after his red card last weekend against Aston Villa.
Nicolas Jackson is also suspended for Monday night’s game at Craven Cottage after picking up a fifth yellow in six league games.
“We were talking because we talk a lot. These are things you cannot stop because when you play you are very anxious to score.
“You sometimes forget things. That is why you need to experienced and to be mature, for sure he is growing very fast.
“Now we are going to miss him for Monday but hopefully after the goal he scored against Brighton, his confidence will be higher than before.”
