Poch frustrated by late dagger from the Blades

Mauricio Pochettino was left frustrated after Chelsea dropped two points against bottom of the table Sheffield United.

The Blues led up until added time, but Ollie McBurnie struck late on to grab a point.

It is twice in three games Chelsea have conceded late to draw 2-2 to a side in the relegation zone, after last week’s draw against Burnley in west London. Pochettino could not hide his disappointment.

“Very frustrating because we conceded in the first-half after we scored. Then you concede in the last few minutes, you always feel very disappointed and frustrated”, said Pochettino.

“I want to say the draw is a fair result. Even if we control and have possession, we didn’t create enough. We didn’t show the capacity to be solid and be strong. That is the painful situation.

“The first part of the season we were a little bit more solid but were not creating as much. Now we are scoring much but conceding more. It’s difficult to find the balance.

“We tried adapting the situation with different players and different situations on the pitch.”

Chelsea haven’t lost a game since the EFL Cup final to Liverpool in February, but since then have drawn 2-2 three times to sides in the bottom half on the table.

Chelsea’s faint chances of European football are not being helped by dropping points, albeit they have an FA Cup semi-final coming up against Manchester City.

Pochettino is aware of issues Chelsea are having at the back.

“The team is not showing in the last few months the capacity to be solid. We score goals but we are conceding and that is why they punish us”, said the Chelsea boss.

“We are talking a lot. It is a new team with profiles in the squad that we are learning. The combination sometimes, that is why the process always takes time.

“It’s not a magic thing. It’s a project, a three or five year process to build a team. We are in the semi-final of the FA Cup. We were not in a good position in the beginning.

“It is a normal process that has happened, we need to accept. We are working to try and fix this type of problem.”
