Mauricio Pochettino says he is hopeful of more transfer activity at Chelsea in the near future.

The Blues have further added to their squad with the signing of 19-year-old midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu from Stade Rennais, and have also agreed a deal for central defender Axel Disasi of Monaco.

Pochettino is keen to add another midfielder to the squad and Moises Caicedo remains the club’s top target.

And the Chelsea boss is optimistic more business will follow the signings of Ugochukwu and Disasi.

“I’m not disappointed because when we (coaching team) signed, we already knew we were going to find this situation,” Pochettino responded when asked whether he was disappointed that the club had not signed more players.

“I am not disappointed, I am happy in the way the club is working of course, us included. I think there is nothing different to say.

“We’re working hard to try to finish the squad as soon as possible but I think we all understand and we know that maybe that during the last few weeks of the transfer window, maybe some things are going to happen.

“Always it’s better maybe to have everything closed before, but I think it’s not only for us, for different clubs also, continue to work to try to finish and close their squads.”

Chelsea are set to face German side Borussia Dortmund in their final pre-season friendly in the United States before heading home to London, with several of the club’s youngsters again set to be involved.

The likes of Carney Chukwuemeka, Andrey Santos, Bashir Humphreys, Cesare Casadei and others have all played significant minutes during Chelsea’s pre-season tour, and Pochettino says decisions will soon be made on who will stay at the club for the coming season and who could head out on loan – including new signing Ugochukwu.

“What I think we need now is time to assess him until the end of the transfer window to see if he is going to be with us or, because he’s young and the way the club sign, maybe there can be a possibility to go on loan or stay with us,” Pochettino said when asked about Ugochukwu.

“I think all the young guys like Andrey, Lesley or Casadei, I think we are going to, when we arrive to London, we are going to decide.

“Now, no one we can say is going to be in the squad but no one we can say is not going to be in the squad. When we finish the tour, we will see.

“They have the possibilty to maybe go on loan. At the moment, nothing is close.”
