Christian Pulisic says there was no political motivation behind his goal celebration in the USA’s 4-2 win over Jamaica.
Pulisic opened the scoring in the USA’s win but his dance celebration, a nod to incoming US president Donald Trump, sparked widespread controversy on social media. After the game Pulisic was asked about the dance and said it was not politically motivated.
“I saw everyone doing it yesterday in the NFL, I saw Jon Jones do it, and we were just having a bit of fun,” he said.
“I thought it was a pretty fun dance. Obviously, that’s the ‘Trump Dance’ but it was just a dance that everyone’s doing… It’s not a political dance.”
Christian Pulisic wasn't the only USMNT player that hit the Trump dance after his goal against Jamaica.

UFC fighter Jones did a similar celebration after winning his fight against Stipe Miocic on Saturday, with president elect Trump was sitting ringside for the event. Jones then gave Trump his championship belt and the two shared a moment together.
And in the last two days, NFL stars have been doing the dance, which has become something of a viral trend since Trump’s election victory.
