Salah back, Trent out – Klopp updates Liverpool team news

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp confirmed star-man Mohamed Salah is back in full training ahead of a huge week that concludes with the Carabao Cup final, next weekend.

Salah, who hasn’t featured since New Year’s Day for the club, was injured on AFCON duty with Egypt and missed the majority of the tournament. Now with the run-in for honours gearing up, the return of Liverpool’s top scorer and creator is crucial.

“Mo is back in full training, puts him automatically back in full contention,” said Klopp.

“Ibou is not suspended, Joe is fit again, Conor and Ali [Alisson] is back so that’s positive. Trent no.

The loss of Trent Alexander-Arnold is terrible timing for Klopp just as Salah comes back. It typifies Liverpool’s season with Dominik Szoboszlai, Thiao Alcantara, Andrew Robertson and Diogo Jota other players who have suffered sufficient spells on the sidelines.

“I wasn’t aware of it but there was a discussion that we forced Trent back because of two setbacks, but whilst I’m here we’ve never forced anyone back.

“The boys when they play, they are fit but the situation told us differently, we’ll never know if it had happened anyway but it’s very unfortunate.

Liverpool will head down to London in consecutive weekends, as a Wembley date with Chelsea is proceeded by a trip to Brentford.

Thomas Frank’s side stunned the Reds last season, winning 3-1 at the GTech Community Stadium. Klopp knows his team will need to be at their best to beat the Bees.

“Super tricky. With or without Toney, players back from AFCON, Maupay has found his feet and they are very good at set pieces,” he said.

“They’re also very compact, good at counter attacks and a well coached team. Did I forget anything?

“Saying that, where we want to end up, we have to be on top of our game so they are worried about us. I’m happy with the resilience we’ve shown, now we have to be at our best.”
