Morocco have been named the winners of the Africa Cup of Nations following a ruling to overturn the result of the final.
Senegal won the game 2-1 in extra-time in January in what was a chaotic final, with the Senegal players leaving the pitch for more than 15 minutes after Morocco were awarded a late penalty, which was missed by Brahim Diaz.
But following the events of the game, the result has now been overturned and Morocco have been named winners of the tournament.
“The Confédération Africaine de Football (“CAF”) Appeal Board decided today that in application of Article 84 of the Regulations of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the Senegal National Team is declared to have forfeited the Final Match of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025 (“the Match”), with the result of the Match being recorded as 3–0 in favour of the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF),” African football’s governing body said in a statement.
