Sheringham urges Spurs to sign Toney but backs Harry Kane to lead England attack

England legend Teddy Sheringham has urged one of his former clubs to sign Ivan Toney straight after the Euros.

The ex-Manchester United striker does not see Toney heading to Old Trafford but rather suggests the Brentford goalscorer should stay in London and switch to Tottenham.

Sheringham said: “I believe Ivan Toney would be a good signing for Spurs. I think he is the exact type of striker they need.”

Toney has been serving as a back up substitute to Harry Kane in England’s run to the European Championship semi-final so far. He also scored a crucial penalty in the shoot-out win over Switzerland to help set up a last four clash against the Netherlands.

But Sheringham still believes Kane is the man to lead the line against the Dutch.

Speaking to https://cryptosportsbetting.ltd/ he explained: “Harry is a leader, a top goalscorer, he does a lot of work for the team that goes unnoticed – he drags his team along at times, I would 100 per cent stick with him and he will come good.

“Toney is pushing hard for a start as there is not much he could have done with his cameo against Slovakia, he set up Kane’s goal and then the composure with his penalty was brilliant. However, Harry Kane will start as he is the leader, he is the proven goalscorer, he does a lot of hard work for the team and he has delivered at the top level.”

“The critics have been harsh. The football hasn’t been pretty at times, but Southgate will get the respect should England win on Sunday in the Final! That is all it’s about now – winning the competition. “

The only changes he would urge manager Gareth Southgate to make, come at the back.

Sheringham concluded:  “For me, Guehi comes back in for Konza and I believe that will be it. I can’t see too many other changes.”
