Six players who had interesting jobs after their football careers

For many top level footballers, their playing career affords them the ability to not have to pursue another career after retirement.

Some, of course, remain in football as coaches, managers and pundits. But there are also others who opted for entirely different career paths after hanging up their boots.

Here are six players who went on to have interesting jobs after finishing playing.

Mathieu Flamini

The former Arsenal, AC Milan and France international footballer enjoyed a solid playing career, winning three FA Cups and a Serie A title during his career.

But his post-football life has arguably been even more successful. Flamini co-founded the company GF Biochemicals – a leading global producer of levulinic acid, a more sustainable alternative to oil.

He is now estimated to be worth more than a whopping $1 billion.

Thomas Gravesen

The Danish midfielder is most known for his spells at Everton, Real Madrid and Celtic, while his eccentric personality has also made him a cult hero. Several of his former team-mates have shared hilarious stories about Gravesen.

Dion Dublin

Having had a successful football career which included spells at Manchester United, Coventry City and Aston Villa, Dublin is still involved in the game and can often be seen giving his thoughts on football on TV.

Fabian Barthez

Barthez is best known for his spell as goalkeeper of Manchester United, where he spent four years of his career.

Since then, Barthez has gone on to be involved in another sport, motor racing. He began a career in motorsport in 2008, and has won several honours as well as taking part in the famed Le Mans 24-hour race.

Daniel Agger

It is fairly obvious that former Liverpool defender Agger has a passion for tattoos just by looking at him. But that passion has also extended to doing his very own designs as a qualified tattooist.

Tim Wiese

Former goalkeeper Wiese had an impressive playing career, most of all at Werder Bremen where he played for seven years.

He continued to do plenty of diving around after his football career too, but as a professional wrestler, and featured at WWE live events though left the company in 2017.
