Slot fearful over Giovanni Leoni’s injury after defender is stretchered off against Southampton

Liverpool boss Arne Slot admits he is fearful that defender Giovanni Leoni has suffered a serious injury.

The youngster was stretchered off in the 2-1 Carabao Cup win over Southampton after suffering a nasty landing.

Slot says he is unsure of how serious it is but is worried it could be a bad one.

“Of course he’s down because for him it didn’t feel good immediately,” he said.

“But now this is something we have to assess and normally these things don’t happen in five or ten minutes. You have to wait for tomorrow to see how he comes in and maybe do a scan to know more about how serious it is.

“But normally, the emotions of a player tell you a lot. I saw during the weekend, a player in the Dutch Eredivisie who went down completely in tears and it proved to be he was right.

“But let’s hope for the best.”
