HEUNG MIN SON says Cristiano Ronaldo is his idol – but wants his Tottenham team-mate Harry Kane to win a second Golden Boot.
Kane won the award as the tournament’s top scorer four years ago but has yet to hit the net, while Ronaldo is up and running with his goal against Ghana yesterday.
But Son has been in touch with Kane about the ankle injury that threatened to keep England’s captain of today’s game against the USA, and wishes him well.
“We’re good friends and I’ve spoken to him about what’s been going on but I don’t have to share that information, if that’s okay,” said Son with a smile after Korea’s goalless draw with Uruguay on Thursday.
And Son hopes Kane has no further injury problems. “Yes, of course, he’s one of the best. He should be at the World Cup. He can show everyone that he’s one of the best strikers in the world. I wish him all the best and I hope he wins the Golden Boot.”
Korea face Ghana next and then Portugal, led by Ronaldo. “He’s still my idol, my role model,” Son added.
“That will never change. But the most important game for us is Ghana which is the next one. For me, personally and us, we need to look to that first.”
