Liverpool boss Arne Slot hailed Mohamed Salah as a “special player” and expressed confidence that the Egyptian star will remain a key figure for the club “for a long time” following his outstanding display in the 3-3 thriller against Newcastle at St. James’ Park.

Salah once again proved why he is one of the Premier League’s most reliable stars, delivering a masterclass in Liverpool’s six goal thriller draw against Newcastle at St. James’ Park. The Egyptian forward scored twice and provided an assist, playing a pivotal role in a rollercoaster encounter that showcased his brilliance and resilience.

Liverpool trailed early on after stunning strike from Alexander Isak but Salah orchestrated the comeback. He set up Curtis Jones’ equaliser with a clever assist but then the Reds went behind with Anthony Gordon putting the hosts back into the lead before Salah struck twice to put the Reds 3-2 ahead. Salah’s second-half display was a testament to his ability to turn games around, even after a quiet first half display

Despite Liverpool conceding a late Fabian Schär equaliser following a rare Caoimhin Kelleher mistake, Salah’s individual contribution stood out. His performance not only kept Liverpool in the race for points but also saw him leapfrog Erling Haaland to become the Premier League’s top scorer with 13 goals this season.

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot was full of admiration for Salah’s impact, hailing him as a “special player” who consistently delivers when his team needs him.

Slot also highlighted Salah’s clinical finishing and relentless work ethic. His 15 goals and 12 assists in 21 appearances across all competitions this season underline his enduring quality and importance to Liverpool. Slot also noted how his preparation during pre-season set the tone for his stellar form. “From day one, even when many of his teammates were absent, he trained hard and led by example. It’s no surprise he’s performing so well,” Slot added.

Salah’s current form is strengthening his case for a contract extension, with reports suggesting Liverpool are preparing a new offer. While his long-term future remains uncertain, Slot is confident Salah is happy and thriving in Liverpool’s setup

“He’s in a very good place, in a very good team that provides him with opportunities,” Slot remarked. “We hope and expect him to continue doing this for a long time.”
