Free Agent XI: Who could be available in the summer?

There are some high profile players due to be out of contract at the end of the season, meaning they can start negotiating a free transfer to a foreign club now.

Here is eleven players who are out of contract in June…

GK: Koen Casteels – Wolfsburg

The Belgium keeper, who has eight caps for his nation, is out of contract this summer. He has been at the German outfit since 2015/16 and in that time has played 271 times. At the age of 31, he still has the best years of his career to come, and could have some top clubs circling around him come June. A solid option on a free.

RB – Vladimir Coufal – West Ham

The West Ham full back has been a great asset to David Moyes’ side. The Czech has almost 250 appearances for the Hammers and was part of the squad that won the Europa Conference League last season. Coufal has never scored for West Ham but has 20 assists, and is reportedly assessing his options after rumoured interest from rival Premier League teams.

CB – Mario Hermoso – Atletico Madrid

Mario Hermoso is currently out injured, and out of contract in June. Since he joined in 2019, he has made 165 appearances and scored ten goals. At the age of 28, Hermoso is in the prime of career and could be a great option for another club, with his future set to lie away from the Spanish capital after five years under the tutelage of Diego Simeone.

CB – Lloyd Kelly – AFC Bournemouth

Lloyd Kelly has made 134 appearances for Bournemouth since moving to the south coast. Previously of Bristol City, Kelly has experienced relegation from the Premier League and promotion from the Championship with his current club, for whom he currently captains. As it stands,Kelly will leave Bournemouth at the end of the season, and may have queue of clubs ready to snap him up.

LB – Juan Miranda – Real Betis

Juan Miranda has made over 100 appearances for Real Betis, 25 of which have come this season for the Spanish left back. He could be on the move this summer though, and would be a tidy pick-up for a free transfer. Miranda, formerly of Barcelona’s La Masia academy, is only 24, and has plenty of years to achieve his potential.

CM – Adrien Rabiot – Juventus

Adrien Rabiot has been at Juventus since 2019, but his contacts runs out this summer. The French midfielder is 28, but will be 29 by the time the season ends. There is a chance a Premier League team could acquire him for nothing and, if he impresses at Euro 2024, he could have his pick. The experienced midfielder has played at the highest level and could be a quality addition for whoever signs him up.

CM – Jorginho – Arsenal

Jorginho has been a vital figure for Mikel Arteta’s side in the last couple of weeks after little game time at the start of the season. The Italian, a £12million signing from Chelsea in last January’s window, is out of contract in the summer, when he will be 32. It remains to be seen as to whether Arteta will try to persuade the Italy international to sign an extension, or if the player wants to stay with chances limited.

CM – Piotr Zieliński – Napoli

At the age of 29, Zielinski has plenty of experience, in club and international. For Poland, he has 58 caps, scoring 11 times. With Napoli, Zielinski has played over 350 times, playing a vital role in their Serie A triumph last season. Available on a free this summer, he could be an ideal midfield option, with Italian rivals Internazionale reportedly the front runner to sign the Polish international.

RW – Nicolas Pepe – Trabzonspor

The former Arsenal winger finds himself out of contract this summer, and yet agin looking for a new club after a season in Turkey. After his underwhelming time in north London, Premier League clubs might swerve the option of signing him up. The Ivorian is still 28, and still has a lot to prove. Who knows where he might end up.

ST – Anthony Martial – Manchester United

The 28 year old joined Manchester United for €60m in 2015 and in his time in Manchester has scored 63 goals in 209 appearances. Across his eight and a half years at United, he has never truly shown the promise that he came with. It seems his United career is going to go out with a whimper, but he could still have a promising future ahead of him.

ST – Rafa Silva – Benfica

Rafa Silva has been one of the most important players in Benfica’s recent history. Scoring 91 goals, and assisting 78 goals in 320 appearances, Silva could alert the attention of some Premier League sides. Having played at the top level in European football, his experienced could be appreciated at a new club, who would be picking up the 30 year-old on a free transfer. One to watch.
