Ten Hag on Fernandes transfer link to Bayern: He is still important to us

Erik ten Hag has played down reports linking Bruno Fernandes with a move away from Manchester United.

According to the Independent, the Manchester United captain has been heavily linked with a move to Bayern Munich and the Portuguese international is said to be increasingly frustrated by United’s regression this season.

Despite an FA Cup final against Manchester City coming up, United are slumped down in eight in the Premier League table and are at risk of failing to qualify for any European competition next season.

Reports have intensified in recent days, but Ten Hag is adamant that Fernandes will continue to be an integral part of United’s team beyond next season.

He said: “It’s the same question as last week so I answered,” said the Dutchman when asked about Fernandes’ future. “It’s the same answer.

“It’s clear [he’s important], not just now but in all his years here. He’s shown he’s an important player and created the most chances across the Premier League and scored important goals. He’s so important for us.”

Ten Hag is also hopeful that the departing Raphaël Varane has not played his final game for the club after the Frenchman announced today that he will be leaving Manchester United at the end of the season- but admitted he will not be fit for the game against Newcastle United on Wednesday.

He said: “We’re planning for the last games, Not for tomorrow, but we hope for Sunday and then for the last game [against Manchester City in the FA Cup final].
