Ten Hag questions Leeds’ decision to sack Marsch

Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag believes Jesse Marsch should have been able to “finish his work” at Leeds United.

Marsch was sacked as Leeds boss this week after a run of seven Premier League games without a win, with the Whites currently sat 17th in the table.

“It’s always sad when a manager and a colleague gets sacked,” Ten Hag said.

“In general, I don’t believe that if you sack a manager, you get better results. Most of the time it doesn’t work.

“Let managers do their work, let them finish their work, and then make a good evaluation.

“But obviously the pressure is high with the decision makers in football clubs.

“But if you see the facts, if you see the stats, most of the times it doesn’t work out well.”

Ten Hag’s side take on Leeds twice in the Premier League this week after their earlier season fixture was postponed due to concerns over policing because of the Queen’s funeral.

Man Utd head into Wednesday’s game having beaten Crystal Palace 2-1 in their last fixture but will be without suspended Casemiro, who was sent off during the game.

And Ten Hag has warned that his team must be wary of a potential change in approach from Leeds following Marsch’s sacking.

“When Jesse Marsch was at Leeds, it was clear how they play, their system, their style,” he continued.

“Now, it’s possible they change. But it’s also possible they don’t change.

“I think we’ll only find out on the pitch.”
