‘It’s time to win’ – Thiago Silva on Chelsea future and Carabao Cup final

Thiago Silva admits it is almost the end of his time at Chelsea and says he has unfinished business at Wembley after his side reached the Carabao Cup final.

The Blues hammered Championship side Middlesbrough 6-1 at Stamford Bridge, overturning a 1-0 defeat in the first leg to set up a final with either Liverpool or Fulham.

Silva, who turned 39 in September, says he does not have long left at Chelsea having joined the club in 2020 but says he hopes to end on a high note despite the club’s recent struggles.

“I know that with each game that ends I have the feeling that it’s ending, so that makes me a little sad, but happy with the performance on the field, which is the most important,” said Silva.

“There’s nothing scheduled here. I’m just looking to have fun.

“We know it’s almost over, but it’s not the end yet, so pick the right time.

“I’m still able to maintain a good performance. My numbers are good, this gives me peace of mind to continue.

“Now, the future belongs to God. Let’s finish well here, this and those four months and see what has to happen going forward.

“But I’m super relaxed about that. Just try to take a real photo in front, to make a decision that will be important.”

Chelsea could set up another final against Liverpool having twice been beaten by the Reds in both the FA Cup and League Cup finals back in 2022, with Silva featuring in both.

Silva also played in the FA Cup final defeat to Leicester City in 2021 and says he wants to put things right this time around.

He said: “If I’m not mistaken, the three times I went there, I lost all three. So I think it’s time to win, right?”
