Live updates of Tottenham’s Premier League match against Arsenal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
“You have to show it when it matters. When it’s really on the edge and people are doubting. That’s when you have to stand up, and it’s very difficult to do it but today individually we had some huge performances.”
Arteta on Eze’s record against Spurs: “We looked at every stat but that one, to be honest, no,” Arteta laughed.
“He’s scored five goals in the last two games against them which is extremely difficult to do.
“I could see that he wanted to prove something. He was upset, even with me because I didn’t play him the other day from the beginning and some of the decisions that I’ve made.
“I start to understand how we’re going to get the best out of him now.”
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has just been in for his press conference and started by giving a passionate response when asked about the way his players reacted following the draw with Wolves.
“I cannot be prouder or happier for what I’ve seen out there. But especially the way we lived the last 72 hours because I think this game in particular needed some context, after what happened against Wolves and the manner which we lost two points in the last kick of the game.
“It was tough, but that’s the beauty of this game. There is no explanation watching back how they managed to draw that game. From any angle. You watch it back, and it’s impossible, I said it’s not going to happen. But it happened.
“Then you have to lift yourself up because you’re feeling angry, upset, ashamed. We’re all different nationalities and have different feelings and then you have to bring everyone together.
“It’s been a joy to spend that time together with them, to align everybody and to see what is happening in the next chapter. This one is gone, and how do we use it as a turning point to make ourselves better?
“That was the focus and the attention but you still have to do it on the pitch and what we did from the beginning to the end of the match, it was outstanding.”
“Of course there is enough time.
“This was not the perfect team to play after three or four training sessions but in one way we needed to see, which is something good, if I can say this, to see where we need to be, where is the goal, what is the level.
“So today, totally different worlds. I have to be honest. Two totally different worlds. Levels.”
“Arsenal are probably the best team in the world now at this moment so it was not easy.
“But it can also give us an excuse. We were thinking today that it’s a derby and in a derby we can give something more.
“I played a lot of derbies and coached a lot of derbies. For sure the derby gives you something more of mentality, of motivation, but there are also other things you cannot change in three or four trainings. It’s impossible.”
“You never know because this is a situation I never saw. We have ten players plus three on the bench.
“But I like, because I see the players want to do. Now we need to restart again and wait for the players who are out, for sure, that’s also a big reason but it is how it is.”
“I saw the passion, I saw the will, so I was not angry because they wanted to do (it). But they were not able, in this moment, to do the things. They wanted to do all. They prepared, so that’s good.
“But we need to understand which moment we are now because we are not able to do. Why are we not able to do is the question.
“I speak from the first day at the club, I come here to resolve the problems so you believe after three or four training sessions they will do their best but then at the start of the game you don’t know what will happen.
“Stay humble, that’s they key for each of us, and try to become a hardworking team, a squad. That’s the only goal now we have in this moment.”
“We prepared to press high but we didn’t take the ball. We need more time to get to be in a physical moment, situation, where we can take the ball. Now, we are not in that moment.
“Even with the ball, the lack of confidence is very evident. We want to be prepared to do these things but there is an opponent, there is a reality today.
“I’m very sad, very angry, every everything, but in one way it’s also good to understand what is our goal. What is the goal of this club? What is the goal of this team? What is the goal of this coach and these players and all staff? To get serious.
“The medicine is you look in the mirror. Each of us look in the mirror and really try to start to change the habits. Working hard is the only way.”
Spurs boss Igor Tudor: “A big gap in this specific moment between the two teams. Arsenal were too much for us with the problems we have. It’s nice to understand where we are, because you prepare in the best possible way but then there is a game to show the reality.
“Come on Tuesday and restart to work harder than we did until now to change our habits, to change the state of mind as a team.”
“I try to score every game but it seems to work a lot against Tottenham.”
Viktor Gyokeres on whether that was his best game for Arsenal: “Yeah, in some aspects I think it was a good one but in some I could have done a bit better.”
Ebere Eze: “We know what we’re capable of and what we can do. We play games to dominate and to win.”
Eberechi Eze and Viktor Gyokeres both scored twice in a comfortable win for Arsenal.
Randal Kolo Muani’s goal gave Spurs hope, but in the end they were well beaten.
It’s another double, this time for Viktor Gyokeres.
The Swede powers his way through on goal and passes into the corner.
As we enter the seven minutes of injury time left to play Bukayo Saka makes way for Noni Madueke.
Spurs think they have scored after Richarlison’s flick is headed goalward, but an incredible save from David Raya just about keeps the ball out.
Spurs’ final throw of the dice sees Mathys Tel on for Joao Palhinha.
A blue flare in David Raya’s goalmouth has halted proceedings momentarily.
Leandro Trossard and Eberchi Eze make way for Gabriel Martinelli and Martin Odegaard.
Arsenal are very much on top here, and Saka almost adds a fourth.
The Englishman cuts in on his left and hits a shot into the sidenetting.
Leandro Trossard goes close to a fourth for Arsenal.
The Belgian cuts in on the left and fires just wide from 25 yards out.
Spurs goalscorer Randal Kolo Muani is off for Richarlison.
Dominic Solanke is on for Conor Gallagher.
And who else but Eberechi Eze again.
The chance looks over when Saka is tackled, but the ball falls straight to Eze who fires into the empty net.
A very poor free kick from Joao Palhinha has Djed Spence in trouble.
He eventually loses it to Bukayo Saka who fires straight at Vicario.
Cristhian Mosquera is on for Jurrien Timber.
