Newcastle and England full-back Kieran Trippier has backed Newcastle team-mate Anthony Gordon to make the England squad for Euro 2024.
The former Everton winger has had an impressive first full season under Eddie Howe, with ten goals and five assists in all competitions for Newcastle United.
Gordon is currently in the Under 21’s set up with England, but Trippier feels as if Gordon is ready to make the step up.
“I hope so, I think he has had a fantastic season. It is about being consistent, he certainly has been this season”, said the England full-back.
“I am not the manager, if I was I would definitely select him. He just needs to keep performing.
“Do not worry about the England situation, keep performing for Newcastle and keep doing your thing as he has been.”
England have gone close in recent tournaments, losing in the final of Euro 2020, and reaching a quarter-final and a semi-final in their last two World Cups.
There is another ‘golden generation’ feel to the current crop of players, and Trippier says England should not be afraid of saying they can lift the trophy in the summer.
“It is massive. We have been so close over the last couple of tournaments. We have an unbelievable squad and a top manager”, said Trippier.
“We need to go into that tournament with a mindset to win the Euros. Hopefully we can bring it home in the summer.
“It has got that great blend with the youth and experience. You see the players, the squad is scoring from all over the pitch, not just relying on Harry (Kane)
“You see the stats of Ollie Watkins for example, he is on fire this season. We have got a really good squad and hopefully we can do well this summer.”
